SMPD investigating homicide, suspect in custody

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The San Marcos Police Department is investigating a homicide, and a suspect was taken into custody, according to a social media post from the agency.

SMPD identified that suspect as 47-year-old Juan Manuel Yanez. He was arrested in Harris County around 8:20 p.m., according to police.

Around 4 p.m., SMPD said it was at the scene of an "active investigation" in the 800 block of River Road. Around 6:45 p.m., police said Yanez was the suspect in the homicide investigation.

San Marcos Consolidated Independent School buses previously experienced "significant delays" in that area, due to the investigation.

Police asked families to "arrange alternative transportation and pick up" for their students from their campuses "out of an abundance of caution."

No other details were available Friday.
