Three Patriots Trade Packages For Browns Star Myles Garrett

Myles Garrett finally put his foot down Monday, officially requesting to be traded away by the Cleveland Browns.

Garrett’s decision comes after nearly a decade of losing in Cleveland, and was made in direct defiance of the organization already claiming it has zero interest in moving on from its superstar pass-rusher.

The Browns don’t have much of a choice, however, because they’re currently in salary cap hell and probably aren’t getting out of it without shedding big-money contracts. Garrett will eventually be moved, and the longer it takes to happen, the more leverage a potential buyer will have,

The Patriots figure to be one of those potential buyers.

New England currently has more cap space than any other team in the NFL, while also owning the ammunition to sweeten the pot on a potential trade for the 29-year-old. Do we think it’s smart business to make this trade with so many other needs to be addressed and the fact that acquiring will drain both money and assets? No, but we have to at least discuss what it would cost to get a trade approved, right?

It’s time to examine Garrett’s potential arrival to New England:

Patriots Get: Garrett
Browns Get: 2025 second-round pick, 2026 first-round pick, 2026 fourth-round pick

Garrett’s probably the most well-rounded defensive lineman in the NFL, and he’ll cost quite a bit because of that. The Patriots would only owe him $44.8 million over the next two seasons, though any deal made would likely come with an extension in place, which in turn will lower the Browns’ potential return from what it could be.

New England’s ceiling rises with a move for the perennial All-Pro, but we think we can get a bit more creative than this.

Patriots Get: Garrett; OT Jack Conklin
Browns Get: 2025 fifth-round pick, 2026 first-round pick

Cleveland is only taking this request seriously because it needs to shed salary, so why not present the opportunity to dump nearly $40 million in one fell swoop?

New England can offer them a great reprieve in this scenario, while also lessening the burden of giving up future draft capital. Garrett and Conklin would both become immediate starters, with a new contract for the former becoming more palatable if they can keep all their premium picks this year.

Patriots Get: Garrett; 2025 first-round pick
Browns Get: 2025 first-round pick, 2026 first-round pick; 2027 first-round pick

Do we think there’s any chance of this happening? No, but none of these entries would be smart business so why not get nuts?

The Patriots can take a major swing with this move, obtaining both Garrett and the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, essentially gambling on the fact that Garrett and (hopefully) Colorado’s Travis Hunter would combine to bring more value than your next two first-round selections.

The Tennessee Titans could feasibly throw a wrench in our plans by taking Hunter, but that would just open the door for New England to trade back and potentially recoup the assets it lost in the trade.

If you’re going to go big, why not go really big?
