Arrest made after man loses fingers defending dog in NYC machete attack: police

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man who allegedly severed another man’s fingers during a machete attack in New York City in January was arrested Tuesday, police said.

Timothy Bohler, 30, of the Bronx, has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD.

The machete attack happened on the sidewalk outside a bodega near 2001 Southern Blvd. in the Bronx on Jan. 24, according to police.

Bohler allegedly became upset about a dog barking and not being on a leash and threatened the dog with a machete, police said.

“He swings the machete, and I went to grab it,” recalled 35-year-old Tayquon Young, the victim who lost four fingers while saving his dog during the attack.

Doctors were unable to reattach Young’s four severed fingers. He underwent amputation surgery on Tuesday and is now recovering.

Young was reunited with his dog at the hospital on Monday and found comfort in her presence.

“I’m blessed to have her here, and I’m blessed to be here to tell the story,” Young said.

GoFundMe page has been started for Young's mounting hospital bills.
