Tottenham secures first outfield signing of the January window

Tottenham Hotspur have now officially confirmed the signing of Kevin Danso from Ligue 1 side RC Lens, securing much-needed reinforcement in central defence as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his squad for the second half of the campaign.

The deal, which was finalised on 2 February 2025, arrived just a day before the winter transfer window slammed shut, making it Spurs’ first outfield signing of the window.

The 26-year-old centre-back has joined the club on loan until the end of the season, however, the Lilywhites do have a clause that allows them to make the deal permanent. The centre-back is also set to wear the number four jersey for the Lilywhites.

Danso on Tottenham, trophies and Premier League dreams

Now, after sealing his move, the 26-year-old has opened up about why he could not turn down the opportunity to play for Tottenham.

Speaking to SPURSPLAY following his move from France, the Austrian centre-back wasted no time in expressing his excitement about joining Tottenham, making it clear that it was always his intention to play in the Premier League for a club of this stature.

“It feels amazing to be here at the club, I always wanted to play for a big club in the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur is exactly that,” he explained.

“I think as soon as you hear Tottenham Hotspur is interested then I think the only thing you can do is say yes. It is an amazing project and I am happy to be here.”

Danso, known for his strength, speed and composure in defence, also gave an insight into what he brings to Postecoglou’s squad. “I am a quick, powerful centre-back, good on the ball, good at defending one-vs-one situations and that is what I thrive on and I love to defend.”

While his immediate focus is on integrating into the squad, the former Lens man made it clear that he has his eyes on silverware, knowing full well what it means to play for a club with big ambitions.

“I grew up playing academy football here and when you grow up everyone watches the Premier League. Like I said, it is a dream come true,” he continued.

“Opportunities to win trophies is, I think, every kid’s dream growing up, to be winning trophies at a club like Tottenham Hotspur. I hope we can win a couple of trophies.”

Defensive depth arrives at the right time for Tottenham

While Danso will not be able to feature in Tottenham’s next Premier League fixture against Brentford on Sunday afternoon, he will be closely watching as his new teammates look to turn their abysmal Premier League campaign around.

“100 per cent, cannot wait,” he said when asked if he would be watching the game at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Ultimately, Spurs fans will be eager to see how Danso adapts to English football, but if his words are anything to go by, he is more than ready for the challenge that awaits him in North London.
