New Delhi: During the felicitation ceremony at Arun Jaitley Stadium following the second day of the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Railways on Friday, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli showed his respect by touching the feet of his childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma.

A video shared on social media shows Virat Kohli receiving a shawl and a special memento from DDCA president Rohan Jaitley. This acknowledgment was for Kohli’s achievement of playing 100 Test matches for India, a milestone he accomplished against Sri Lanka in March 2022. Prior to this, Kohli paid tribute to his childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, by touching his feet and embracing him warmly.

Kohli has become the third cricketer from Delhi to participate in 100 or more Test matches for India, following Ishant Sharma, who has played 105, and Virender Sehwag, who played 104. This Ranji Trophy match was Kohli’s first involvement in India’s domestic first-class competition in almost 13 years, with his previous match taking place in November 2012.

Kohli’s comeback was not notable, as he was dismissed for only 6 runs off 15 balls by Railways bowler Himanshu Sangwan. Approximately 5,000 spectators had assembled to see Kohli, enthusiastically chanting “RCB, RCB” and “Kohli, Kohli.” However, as he made his way back to the pavilion, the enthusiasm diminished, leading many fans to exit the stadium.

Prior to this match, Kohli practiced with ex-India coach Sanjay Bangar to address problems in his batting, especially his difficulties with deliveries outside the off-stump that he faced during the tour of Australia.

Even though Kohli was dismissed early, Delhi finished the day on a high note with a score of 334/7, holding a 93-run advantage over Railways. Captain Ayush Badoni delivered an impressive performance, falling just short of a century with a score of 99, while Sumit Mathur stayed not out at 78.
