Fundraiser hits $100K goal for Center for Disability Services

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The annual 518Gives fundraiser was held on Friday for the Center for Disability Services. The center hit its goal and raised $100,000.

The center provides services to thousands of individuals with disabilities through their resources in the Capital Region. Their goal is to empower kids and adults and help them lead more independent lives.

On Friday, the center's phone banks were ringing off the hook, and the donations are crucial to keeping the center going.

"It's an important part of what we do here because we don't get funded for everything," CEO Greg Sorrentino said. "Every service we provide, again, is not necessarily covered by government funding. And we want to be able to provide those services, and people quite frankly sometimes, come from outside of the region or from three hours to get a service. We have healthcare, and otherwise a service for them."

The center also received a matching grant for $50,000 from a generous anonymous donor. If you did not get a chance to call during the fundraiser, there are still plenty of ways to give, including online through the Center for Disability Services website.
