KANSAS (KSNT) - Nearly $11 million will be going to 24 rural communities in Kansas as part of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

Governor Laura Kelly announced on Friday, Jan. 31 that $10,849,582 would be matched with local funding, bringing the total investment to more than $26.9 million.

“The Community Development Block Grant program continues to be a vital resource for our small and rural communities that are in critical need of infrastructure and institutional improvements,” Kelly said. “The dollars allocated to these counties demonstrably address and enhance municipal capacity and quality of life for Kansans throughout the state.”

The funds will be invested in four core areas:

  • Community Centers, parks and library.
  • Sidewalks and Trails.
  • Water and sewer infrastructure.
  • Youth job training.

The grants will benefit low to moderate-income people, help to eliminate slums and blight and resolve urgent community needs, according to the press release from the Office of the Governor. You can see a full list of awardees by clicking here.
