Trump issues new warning to ‘seemingly hostile countries’

President Donald Trump issued a scathing new warning to countries comprising the BRICS economic bloc to back off any ideas of replacing the U.S. dollar – or else.

The word of caution from the freshly inaugurated president emboldened by his 2024 election victory came Thursday in a post to his Truth Social platform.

“The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar, while we stand by and watch, is OVER,” Trump wrote Thursday referring to the global coalition that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

“We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy.

Trump added: “They can go find another sucker Nation. There is no chance that BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, or anywhere else, and any Country that tries should say hello to Tariffs, and goodbye to America!”

Trump has repeatedly used tariffs as an avenue to threaten other countries, which some have called his “weapon of choice on the global stage.”

The warning from Trump comes as his advisers reportedly mull ways to avoid moving forward on universal tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports – even while he warns that the tariffs are coming.
