Starbucks Making Major Cuts to Menu
Starbucks has been in the midst of a rebrand over the past year as the global coffee chain rolls out various changes to its stores and customer experience. The latest confirmed change might worry those who prefer ordering a specialty drink.
On Jan. 28, CEO Brian Niccol outlined some of the changes coming to Starbucks in the coming months on the company's first quarter fiscal year 2025 earnings call, according to Today. He confirmed that the coffee chain would be cutting down its food and drink options by a considerable amount by the end of this year.
"In the coming months, you’ll see us begin to optimize our menu offerings, resulting in roughly 30 percent reduction in both beverages and food," Niccol said. What exactly is on the chopping block remains unclear, though Niccol has alluded to the items' popularity—or lack thereof—as a factor in their elimination.
“It’s a little bit of everything is how I would describe it," Niccol told Yahoo! Finance, hoping the cuts will "clear the noise" for "better innovation" on the menu. "Really what we focused on is what are the items that are not, frankly, selling a lot every day?"

Among the first casualties of this cutback were its controversial olive oil-infused Oleato drinks that were eliminated from menus last fall. It remains to be seen just what else will be removed from menus. The move came after Starbucks announced in October it was also paring down its discounts and special promotions for customers.
If you think your favorite menu item might get cut, make sure to order as much as you can in the coming weeks.
