What’s Going to Happen to Kathy Bates’s Madeline Matlock One Once the Big Secret Comes Out?

Kathy Bates' Madeline Matlock took on a big task trying to take down an elite law firm, but will she still be the same woman by the end?

The question that has been in everyone’s mind is what will happen to Matlock when Matty’s identity and plan are revealed.

Furthermore, will Madeline Kingston still be the same woman she was when this all started? The character has had to make a lot of sacrifices since going undercover.

One of the things that makes Matlock such an amazing series is the delicate balancing act it does between Matty’s high-stakes revenge plan and the episodic cases that bring her closer to the very people she is trying to bring down.

That’s a tall order for someone in their seventies, and she only has the aid of her also elderly husband and pre-teen grandson, who is still dealing with the loss of his mother.

You know what probably would have gone a long way? Therapy. I can’t recall Matty ever mentioning a therapist helping her through her grief. I’m just saying.

Matlock’s Plan Is Causing More Damage To Her Family Than It Is To The Firm

I only bring up the need for some mental house-cleaning because every episode has stripped Matty piece by piece of the things that separated her from the greedy corporate lawyers at Jacobson Moore.

For one thing, she’s gotten disturbingly good at lying on the spot. The days when Matty made up stories about her dead dog, Cookie, who never existed, are long gone.

By the end of Matlock Season 1 Episode 4, it was worth seeing Matty and Mrs. B practically becoming best buddies, so at least that croaked canine served some purpose.

In all seriousness, pivotal moments have tested Madeline to the point of affecting her health. At her age, she can’t afford to keep having panic attacks. Poor Edwin can’t either. That man is hanging on by a string.

Speaking of Matty’s family, do you all remember how Matty and Edwin got into it because Matty was using Alfie as a resource rather than letting him have a normal life?

Suffice it to say that Matty’s plan has not been going nearly as smoothly as she had planned. At what point does she ask herself if it was all worth it? Or is she in it too deep now to pull out?

Madeline Matlock Is Finding Out Just How Infectious Ruthlessness Can Be

One of the most heartbreaking moments came in an episode that was one gut-punch after another. I’m talking about none other than that infamous Christmas episode that was short on holiday cheer unless you’re Leah Lewis‘s Sarah.

Matlock Season 1 Episode 7 featured Julian telling Olympia about his affair, Claudia rejecting Billy’s marriage proposal, and Matty crossing a line she might be too far past to come back from.

“Belly of the Beast” saw Matty right where she finally needed to be on a Wellbrexa case with all the pharma bros.

The case in question was all over the place, involving a medical trial, but in the end, Matty won in the firm’s favor.

However, in rubbing shoulders with Julian (Jason Ritter) and the pharma bros, the lines between Madeline Kingston and Matlock became blurred.

She let herself be as ruthless as she needed to be, and in that instance, the bracelet her daughter had made for her broke into a bunch of little beads tumbling to the ground.

At The End of The Day, Matty Can’t Escape the Fate the Lies Ahead of Her

In truth, Matty (Kathy Bates) has had to force herself to be so cutthroat because she’s grown close to her co-workers at Jacobson Moore. As much as she wants to tell herself it’s all business, she cares for those lawyers.

In particular, Matty and Olympia have developed a real friendship despite how hard they’ve both tried to fight it. However, their bond is not so great that it could survive Matty’s betrayal.

If we’ve learned anything about Mrs. Lawrence (Skye P. Marshall), it’s that she is a proud woman who always has her guard up and does not easily let people in.

Matlock Season 1 Episode 8 provided a clear glimpse into how Olympia processes secrets and lies after dealing with Julian’s confession.

I can’t even begin to handle Olympia and Matty’s conversation. Lots of strong words and tears will likely fly, but I’ve stopped making expectations because Matlock always exceeds them.

Oh, and how is Matty going to look Billy and Sarah in the eye when she reveals that “Team You Three” had a traitor in their midst?

We already know from the hands behind the show that the big twist will be wrapped up by the end of Matlock Season 1

What Kathy Bates’s Madeline is trying to do is noble, but is it worth it if it hurts so many people in the process?

How many upended lives will there be for the sake of justice? Is it all for the greater good?

No wonder people can’t get enough of this CBS hit or Kathy Bates!

What do you think about how far Matty has gone for her plan?

Do you think anyone at Jacobson Moore will forgive her?
