Narberth v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview

0

Next up is for Pontypridd RFC is another away trip, when this Saturday 1st February we head to Pembrokeshire to play Narberth RFC. The Admiral Premiership match at the Lewis Lloyd Ground will kick-off at 2:30pm.

Saturday’s match will be Ponty’s first ever visit to Narberth’s ground, the only two prior meetings between the clubs came at Sardis in 2006 and back in October this season. On Saturday 14th January 2006 Ponty won 50-0 in the Welsh Cup, whilst earlier in the campaign on Saturday 12th October the Valley Commandos triumphed in an entertaining encounter by 52 points to 23 – Mitch Barnard, Cai James, Cally James (2), Louis Rochefort-Shugar, Joe Miles, Lucus Welch and Dale Stuckey all crossed for tries.

Mitch Barnard got the scoring underway when the two clubs met in the 4th game of the season last October.

Ponty’s last matchday was on Saturday when the team headed into Gwent to play Newbridge, and as expected it proved to be physical encounter between two powerful packs. Pontypridd dug in and secured a 30-22 win to maintain their place at the top of the league, 5 points ahead of Merthyr who have moved up into second following their win at Ystrad Rhondda and Neath’s defeat at Cross Keys.

The Admiral Welsh Premiership table, accurate as of 27/1/2025.

Narberth currently occupy the last relegation place in the standings having suffered a 28-8 reverse at Llangennech over the weekend. However, they have enjoyed home wins against Ystrad Rhondda and Newcastle Emlyn, and have won on the road at Brecon and Bonymaen during the current campaign.

The away locations change, but our fantastic support doesn’t and there’s going to be another army of Ponty fanatics heading to West Wales this Saturday – the Ponty Supporters Club’s two separate trips are fully booked, and that’s without everyone else making their way via plane, train and automobile.
