Dub Hub: Steph Curry stunned by Warriors’ 1-20 record when trailing after three quarters
Rounding up all Warriors and NBA related news for Monday, January 27th.
In today’s Dub Hub:
- Steph Curry stunned by the Warriors’ 1-20 record when trailing after three quarters, following the team’s latest 118-108 loss against the Lakers.
- Steph Curry gifts jerseys to family of Lakers’ head coach JJ Redick following the LA fires.
- Jimmy Butler will return from his latest two-game suspension on Monday for the Heat’s game vs. the Magic.
The Golden State Warriors 118-108 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night added to a troubling trend for the team this season. After trailing by just one point at halftime, Golden State found themselves down by six after three quarters, and ultimately could not generate enough offense to push over the hump in the final frame. The loss dropped the Warriors to a brutal 1-20 when trailing after three quarters—a stat that left Stephen Curry visibly stunned.

STEPH CURRY: "What?!" pic.twitter.com/V7KRsEW4nF
Curry, who started the game strong with 13 points, shot a career-worst 0-of-8 from the field in the second half, including 0-of-4 from beyond the arc. Curry’s uncharacteristic shooting night was a big reason why Golden State struggled to generate offense late in the game, so he took accountability for the loss, acknowledging he has to play better in order for the Warriors to win.
“I just gotta play better. … Any game where I play like that, it's gonna be hard for us to win. At the end of the day, you got to make adjustments, find space, and, knock down the shots that you're supposed to. And I didn't do that.”

Warriors News:
Warriors’ Stephen Curry says thumb no excuse for 0-of-8 half | ESPN
While he keeps getting his shooting thumb banged up, Curry would not use the injury as an excuse.
“It sucks, but it’s not an excuse for anything,” Curry said. “Got to play through it. I went 8-for-8 with it [against the 76ers]. It’s just something that has been lingering to the point that it gets hit every once in a while. It’s one of those things. It is almost gone, and then it gets knocked again. I will deal with it, but it shouldn’t bother me like it did tonight.”
Steve Kerr on loss vs. Lakers: “We know we have to be a three point shooting team to win”
STEVE KERR: "We got 46 threes up — 17 more than [the Lakers] did. We know we have to be a three point shooting team to win. We don't really get to the line a whole lot or get a lot of easy buckets." pic.twitter.com/msLE49sFSX

How ‘late bloomer’ Quinten Post is jolting Warriors as floor-spacing rookie center | San Francisco Chronicle
Focused last season on defensive improvement through rigorous practices led by Grant, Post provided 17 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game and shot 43.1% from 3-point range — garnering ACC All-Defensive and second-team honors to cap his five-year college career. A minor leg injury limited his pre-draft exposure, but he shot the basketball “really well” during a workout with the Warriors and impressed their brass with his feel for five-on-five after reviewing game tape during his pre-draft visit.
“He played five years of college basketball, so he’s an old-school rookie,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said after Thursday’s game. “Guys 25 years ago came in ready to play because they played all that college ball and have that foundation underneath them. That’s Quinten. You can see he’s got a good feel for the game.”
Why Schröder trade brings Warriors few answers five weeks in | NBC Sports Bay Area
This was Game 20 of the Schröder-Warriors union, and there still is little chemistry with Curry, which, to be fair, is a challenge to the smartest of players. Their minus-9.0 plus-minus (over 243 minutes together) is worse than every Curry partner except Lindy Waters III (minus-16.6 in 72 minutes).
What Schröder has done best throughout his 11-year career is work off high-ball screens and pick-and-roll. It can, at times, be magical. It is not what the Warriors do best.
Steph gives Redick’s family heartwarming gift after LA fires | NBC Sports Bay Area
Curry gifted Redick a pair of jerseys to give to his sons, after their family lost their entire memorabilia collection in the Palisades Fire earlier this month.
Redick, whose family was renting a house in Pacific Palisades after he was named Lakers coach last season, spoke about the devastating effects of losing items that never could be replaced.
“Everything that we owned that was of any importance to us in almost 20 years together as a couple and 10 years of parenting was in that house,” Redick said on Jan. 10. “There’s certain things that you can’t replace, that will never be replaced. … The material stuff is whatever. My family and I were processing the self side, the individual side, of losing your home, and you don’t ever want to wish that on anybody. It’s an awful feeling to lose your home.”
NBA News:
Jimmy Butler expected to return from 2nd suspension of the month | NBA
Jimmy Butler is back from suspension. Again.
Butler is expected to play for the Miami Heat against the Orlando Magic on Monday night (7:30 ET, NBA League Pass), after completing his second suspension of the month. He was suspended for Miami’s most recent two games after missing a team flight to Milwaukee last week.
Butler has missed 14 of Miami’s last 19 games entering Monday, including nine of the last 12 because of the suspensions — the first a seven-game ban for conduct that the team deemed detrimental, followed by the two-game suspension.
NBA’s best and worst lineups: Thunder dominate, surprise team impresses, Celtics cause some confusion | CBS Sports
Surprises: Some of the league’s worst teams are at the top (Wizards, Pelicans, Bulls), but then things get weird. The Bucks’ unit has started more games than any other lineup, and yet it’s been entirely ineffective despite the presence of MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo and a resurgent Damian Lillard. It’s also pretty surprising to see the starting lineup of the Celtics, the defending champions (and still the betting favorites for this season), as the sixth-worst lineup in the league with at least 200 minutes. Replace Porzingis with Horford, and you have the best lineup in the NBA. Huh.
Lakers’ Anthony Davis on the team’s potential moves: “I think we need another big”
Lakers' Anthony Davis sits down for ESPN: “One, we want to win it for the city. Two, we never got a parade. Three, it’s a lot of talk about an asterisk … We are (1-2 pieces away). I really feel like we are.”

Dub Nation reflects on the anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s passing
The Warriors ended up holding on for the victory. It was cathartic seeing the Lakers taking an L for the first time in what seemed like forever. “This team has been dominating us for the last three or four years, so it’s a burden lifted off of our chests and off our backs,” Baron said after the game. The shaken Laker fans in the building weakly congratulated their Warriors companions. I wonder if that was the first time many of them considered abandoning their foster team and returning back home to Dub Nation. At any rate, the Bay Area fans knew they had a superstar in B. Diddy who would lead them in the fight against L.A.
