Elephant Rumblings: Wilson, Kurtz make Pipeline Top 100

Last week, Baseball America updated their rankings to include three Athletics on the site’s Top 100 prospects list: shortstop Jacob Wilson (38), first baseman Nick Kurtz (34), and outfielder Colby Thomas (86).

MLB Pipeline also released their rankings, which hold Wilson and Kurtz at similar levels of esteem like the BA rankings, but do not include Thomas or any other Athletics prospects. So the A’s have just two consensus Top 100 prospects for the time being.

The Pipeline’s team prospect rankings place Wilson at No. 1 and Kurtz at No. 2, so it is unsurprising that the former placed higher in the updated Top 100 with Wilson at No. 31 above Kurtz at 38. However, Wilson fell in the Pipeline rankings from No. 24 last year while Kurtz rose in the ranks from No. 45.

Topping the rankings is the Dodgers latest Japanese phenom signing, 23-year-old starting pitcher Roki Sasaki. Time will tell if other A’s like Thomas pop onto the Top 100 after rookies around the league like Wilson graduate from prospect status.

Opening Day is now just over two months away, with the A’s set to host their first game in Sacramento against the Cubs on March 31. Single-game tickets go on sale this Friday. A’s insiders will have access to a presale event that begins on Thursday at 10 a.m.

What say ye, AN? Are you planning to attend the inaugural series at Sutter Health Park? Perhaps you’ll hold out for a bobblehead promotion. Undoubtedly, many of us who feel sorely betrayed by the organization’s abandonment of Oakland will stay away altogether.

I’m not so sure where I fall yet—it’s complicated.
