Glens Falls, South Glens Falls teachers to face-off for fundraiser
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The South High Marathon Dance, a big tradition for students in that district and a huge fundraising effort, comes up at the end of February. A little friendly competition is taking place a month early to help those kids get a head start in collecting donations.
It's called "Battle for the Bridge," an annual basketball game between faculty at Glens Falls and South Glens Falls school districts. All proceeds from the game benefit the same causes for which the South High students will be raising money with their marathon dance.
Robert Amberger, a teacher at Glens Falls City School District, said rallying staff at both schools to participate is a breeze because everyone supports this cause so strongly.
"When we first started it years ago, I was just amazed at the feedback and had no problem getting people to sign up and play, to donate, to volunteer their time," Amberger said. "It's really been inspiring for me to work with these people, and it's just amazing to see how everyone comes together."
From local families to community organizations, proceeds from this year's South High Marathon Dance will go to 34 beneficiaries. If you can't make it to watch the students dance the night away, the Battle for the Bridge is an additional way you can help. It's Saturday, February 1 at Glens Falls High School.
