What is the last day for JC Penney at West Ridge Mall in Topeka?
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A major retail outlet at West Ridge Mall is set to close its doors for the last time later this year in Topeka.
27 News reached out to West Ridge Mall Manager Casey Richardson regarding the pending closure of JC Penney. Advisors Excel, the new owners of the mall, announced the retail giant would be closing its location at West Ridge Mall last week.
Richardson said JC Penney plans to move out of the mall by May 31, 2025. However, this location might close sooner depending on how long the liquidation process takes.
Advisors Excel announced sweeping changes for West Ridge Mall on Jan. 24, including plans for the space JC Penney currently occupies. The second floor of the JC Penney space will be transformed into office space for Advisors Excel while the first floor will be turned into a mixture of retail and restaurants.
27 News was present for last week's announcement and received multiple graphics showing the design plans for the structure. Construction work on these designs is set to start in 2027.
