'Aggressive' man with airsoft gun arrested near Newport elementary school.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man who was "yelling angrily" and "making aggressive body movements" with an airsoft gun near a Newport elementary school was arrested on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

According to Newport police, around 3 p.m. on Friday authorities responded to reports of a man with a gun near Sam Case Elementary School.

Officers from Newport Police and Lincoln County deputies said they found the man, identified as Timothy Bottorff, walking several blocks away and immediately contacted him, finding an airsoft gun on his person which they said was identical to a real gun.

Police said that parents at the school reported Bottorff walking towards the school acting aggressively with the replica weapon on display, which led to the school going into lockdown.

During the investigation, police said that Bottorff attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly arrested. He also attempted to discard a meth pipe and a bag of methamphetamine.

Bottorff faces several charges, including second-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, tampering with police evidence, third-degree escape and resisting arrest.
