Delta Unveils Newly Designed Cabins Featuring Major Upgrades

0

USA Today got an exclusive sneak peek at Delta’s newly designed interior cabins, revealing the airline’s much-anticipated upgrade ahead of its official debut.

Calling the sweeping amendments “subtle but elevated and ergonomic,” the outlet noted that “the plane still feels very Delta.” New slip-resistant floor surfaces guide you through the cabin, which is designed with blue and white colors inspired by the airline’s route maps. A new lighting scheme features calmer hues like calming blues and warm amber to create a cozier ambiance, while the seats have been refashioned with memory foam cushions.

Seatbacks in the main cabin have also been reconfigured to feature a second, shallower pocket which is intended for smartphones and other devices and is conveniently located near charging ports. The primary pocket is also a bit larger in order to fit more personal items.

Delta One (or first class) seats have been reupholstered with a material which is more breathable and comfortable than previous coverings, especially when the seats are lying flat in a sleeping position. Other upgrades to Delta One include wireless charging (traditional USB-C outlets will still be available) and “a three-dimensional Delta widget in the Delta One cabin” which is “perfectly placed for selfies.”

Great pains were taken by the airline to ensure that the upgrades were worth every penny. For example, Delta employees sat in each of the new seats for the duration of the aircraft’s longest flight to personally test their comfort; they also poured all manner of detritus onto the rug, from red wine to crumbly cookies, to see how easily it could be cleaned and whether or not it affected the slip-resistant grip. Delta’s new aircraft will be built with the upgrades, while renovations to existing planes “will roll out over time.”
