Former WBC Bantamweight champion arrested
On Monday it was reported that former WBC Bantamweight champion and current promoter, Yasuei Yakushiji (24-3-1, 16) [薬師寺保栄] had had been arrested, on January 25th, after hitting a female acquaintance with a clothesline, injuring her. The 56 year old Yakushiji was arrested at home, in Naka Ward, Nagoya, with a call being made to arrested him after the incident and the police doing so at the time.
At the time of writing it’s unclear what exactly the injuries are to the female, who is in her 20's, though they have been described as “minor” and “facial” injuries.
As a fighter Yakushiji was a former WBC Bantamweight champion, having won the title in 1993 when he beat Jung Il Byun, and defended it 4 times, including a ,massive win over Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, before losing the belt in 1995 to the Pocket Rocket Wayne McCullogh. After that loss he retired, and later worked for TV whilst also being a chairman of the Yakushiji Gym.
