'The public is going to get angry': Dem insider warns broken Trump promise will hurt him

In his first week in office, President Donald Trump pardoned violent criminals and fired independent government watchdogs, but did little to lower the price of groceries.

Democratic strategist Christine Quinn warned on CNN that this could be a big problem for Trump, as voters have regularly said that lowering grocery prices should be his top priority.

In fact, Quinn pointed back to Trump's repeated vows during the 2024 campaign that he would lower the price of groceries even though he had no real plan to make any such promise into a reality.

"You get held to what you said," she said. "They made promises and if they see President Trump spending all of his time on issues that aren't pocketbook issues, the public is going to get angry and, I think, get angry quickly because people are going to the supermarket, there's no eggs or the ones there are are incredibly expensive. And they said they could control it."

Trump and other allies have been backing off bold promises to reduce grocery bills ever since his victory last year, and many economists have warned that his plans to slap hefty tariffs on foreign goods and to potentially deport undocumented farm workers en masse could send food prices skyrocketing in the coming months.

The price of eggs recently hit a record high and prices of staple goods such as coffee have also been surging.
