Spanberger and Earle-Sears want to make history in Virginia. But voters have election exhaustion

0
Democratic former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger and Republican Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears are picking up steam in their bids to be Virginia's next governor. The governor's race, along with all 100 seats of the Virginia House of Delegates, will be on the ballot this November. But the campaigns are gearing up at a time when voters are unplugging from politics. About 7 in 10 Democrats say they are stepping back from political news. About 6 in 10 Republicans also say they’ve felt the need to take some time off. That hasn't deterred the two leading contenders, either of whom would become the state's first female governor.
