Smriti Mandhana named as ICC women’s ODI cricketer of the year for 2024

India left-handed batter Smriti Mandhana gave stunning performances in the one-day format throughout the year and was thus, rewarded with the women’s ODI cricketer of the year award by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Mandhana started the year with a bang and scored back-to-back centuries to guide the Women in Blue to a 3-0 series win over South Africa. The left-hander then scored a fabulous century against New Zealand in October before scoring another fine hundred against Australia in Perth.

Mandhana racked up a highly impressive 747 runs in 13 ODI matches across 2024. This tally made the left-hander the leading run-scorer in ODI’s throughout the year, ahead of South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt (697), England’s Tammy Beaumont (554) and West Indies’ Hayley Matthews (469).

The opener scored at a great strike-rate of 95.15 and at an impressive average of 57.86. She helped set an attacking rhythm for India in numerous matches. Mandhana also set a new record in the women’s game by scoring 4 ODI centuries in a year.

Mandhana is one of just five batters to have scored over 1000 runs in the ICC Women’s Championship, accumulating a total of 1358 runs in 24 matches in the tournament. She is also the highest-scorer of the competition and is more than 100 runs clear of Wolvaardt, who is the next highest scorer.
