Former Indian World Cup winning spinner takes 9 wickets in an innings against Chandigarh in Under-23 tournament
India’s former Under-19 world Cup 2022-winning left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal created history at the Deccan Gymkhana Cricket Ground. Vicky secured nine wickets and bowled out Chandigarh for 223 in the CK Nayudu Trophy Under-23 tournament. Apart from Ostwal, Devang Kaushik was the player to have taken the one wicket.
Chandigarh batted first, and did not lose wickets against new ball. The first wicket fell in the 11th over. Ostwal got his first wicket in 20th over.
Arnav Bansal was the first to depart after 40 runs. Ehit Salaria followed up with a two-ball duck. Dipender Kush fell after scoring 18 runs.
Nikhil could also not do much and went back for a single-digit score. Abhishek Singh got dismissed in the same over for a three-ball duck.
Captain Akshit Rana and Ivraj Ranauta came in order to steady the innings, and stitched up a partnership of 126 runs. Ranatuna lost his wicket right before the new ball was about to come. He departed on 45 runs, just missing on his half-century.
After Ranauta got dismissed, Ostwal was quick to get rid of the tail-enders, while the captain was left at the non-striker’s end. Ostwal bowled a total of 24 overs, which included 7 maidens. He took 9 wickets for 59 runs.
Maharashtra put out a big total on the board. Centuries by captain AS Nalavade and Sachin Das helped Maharashtra post 513/9 before they declared the innings. Apart from bowling, Ostwal was impressive with the bat as well. He came in at no. 8 and remained unbeaten for 63 off 125 balls. Kshitij Patil scored a fifty, and shared a 113-run partnership with Ostwal for the 8th wicket.
