Albany man accused of burglary, assault

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man was arrested and charged in connection with a domestic-related incident out of Albany on Friday night, according to the Albany Police Department. Billy Rodriguez, 24, faces many charges.

  • Two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • First-degree criminal use of a firearm
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

Police responded to a home on Third Street on Friday around 6:35 p.m. for reports of a person with a weapon. Officers said they learned that Rodriguez had allegedly unlawfully entered the victim's home, threatened the victim with a handgun, and struck her in the head, injuring her before fleeing on foot.

An officer reported seeing Rodriguez near Third Street and North Lake Avenue and attempting to stop him before the suspect allegedly ran from the officer. Rodriguez was quickly apprehended and arrested, per Albany Police.

Upon arrest, it is alleged that Rodriguez had a handgun and fentanyl. Rodriguez also faces burglary, criminal mischief, and criminal contempt charges in connection with a domestic-related incident that happened on November 11.

The suspect was arraigned on Saturday morning in Albany City Criminal Court. He is now in Albany County Jail.
