Portland approaches consecutive dry days record

0

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Through the middle of the week, a ridge of high pressure remains over the PNW and thus it's like a copy-and-paste type of forecast to kick off our new week — frigid mornings with widespread frost to start the day, then dry and sunny from the Oregon Coast to the Willamette Valley.

As we start the week, daytime highs around Portland will hit the low 50s, while the morning lows dip into the upper-20s throughout the next four mornings. Expect breezy moments tonight through Tuesday as easterly winds ramp up out of the gorge and blow through Portland.

So, you'll want to keep the winter hats and gloves in the wardrobe for this week as you head the door. Give yourself a little extra time in the mornings to scrape the frost off the windshield if your car is exposed to the elements.

Breaking a Record this Week?

The dry streak is alive and well. We keep the dry conditions through at least Wednesday with a slight chance of an isolated shower or two Thursday night. However, if Thursday ends up with just a trace of rain and no measurable rain in PDX, we would break the record for most consecutive dry days in January at 18 days.

But the forecast is showing that we will most certainly tie the record at 17 straight days once we get through Wednesday.

A weather pattern change is coming late in the week. That's when our region will see an increase in those rain chances plus an increase in mountain snow chances once we get into next weekend.
