Hello Friends,
We have waist high*, sideshore lumps and bumps on offer for this morning. Wind has been blowing from the NNE at around 10-15 kts since the early morning hours.
*Out at sea the MHL buoy was, as of 0600, recording 1.9 metres of S by SSE energy at a whopping 15 seconds. That long period means that sets will be separated by significant lulls. So, although the picture shows only a tiny wave at the point, there should be bigger sneaker sets in the mix. How big? I’m guessing maybe chest and a bit because the height at sea of the long period swell component – which is coming from the S by SSW – is around half a metre. That means it’s mostly heading away from us, and only the occasional set will make it to the beaches. So, watch it for awhile to see what the long period stuff does when it turns up.
I don’t think surf prospects are too good for tomorrow. Maybe if you hit it at daybreak in a north corner you could score the odd fun one from the short period SSE bump before the northerly wind demolishes the options. Beyond that the swell models are projecting only sub-8 second, sub-metre swell – and rainy weather – through to early next week. Not great I guess, but there you have it.
Go well with your Monday everyone!
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea and a trough approaching from the west will cause north to northeasterly winds to increase on Monday. This trough is forecast to bring a cool, fresh to strong and gusty southerly change to southern and central waters on Tuesday, and then weaken and stall along the north coast for the remainder of the week.
