Harrowing Video Shows School Bus Driver Maneuvering Down Snowy Road
A Long Island school bus driver is being praised by her community after harrowing video went viral earlier this month showing her safely maneuvering the oversized, out-of-control vehicle full of children down a snow-covered hill.
In the 30-second video, which has been viewed over 2.6 million times since being posted to TikTok on Jan. 6, the bus can initially be seen slowly making its way down the snowy residential street in the Rocky Point neighborhood of Long Island. Suddenly, as it hit the slope in the road, the bus drifts to the left; turning almost completely sideways as it continued its descent, careening down the hill.
But incredibly, thanks in no small part to the quick thinking of the driver, she was able to right the ship, so to speak, and bring the bus to a rest on the intersecting street.

The driver, who has since been identified as Theresa Fogal, received a certificate of appreciation during a recent board of education meeting for demonstrating extraordinary skill and composure in the moment. The school district outlined Fogal's heroism in a Facebook post on Jan. 17.
"Theresa’s actions that day were a powerful reminder of the responsibility and care our transportation staff carry every single day," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Scott O’Brien, who presented her with the certificate. "In the face of inclement weather, she ensured that her students remained safe, calm and cared for—a feat that deserves all our admiration and gratitude."
As Fogal accepted the honor, she humbly gave a shout-out to the company that employs her. "First Student is a great company, and I was trained by the best!" she gushed.
O’Brien added: These words speak volumes about Theresa’s character—not only her humility but also her respect and appreciation for her training and the team that supports her."
"On behalf of all of Rocky Point—especially our students, thank you!" the post added.
