Carlos Delgado named manager of Puerto Rico Baseball National Team

The Puerto Rican Baseball Federation (FBPR) announced that the former Major League Baseball (MLB) star will manage the National Team for the Copa Uniòn Antillana, to be held at Luis Canena Márquez Stadium from February 21 to 23. World No. 9 Puerto Rico will face No. 10 Cuba and No. 11 Dominican Republic.

"It's an honour to announce that Carlos Delgado will manage for the first time in the city where he was born," commented FBPR President José Quiles.

Delgado, 52, played 2,035 MLB games, mostly at first base, for the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets and Florida Marlins from 1993 to 2009. He combined 2,038 hits, including 473 home runs. He played two All-Star Games and earned three Silver Slugger awards.

"I'm proud to represent Puerto Rico in my home town, Aguadilla, in front of friends and family," Delgado said. "We want to put together the best team possible."

Puerto Rico will select players on the Professional Roberto Clemente league and the Double-A League rosters.

Meanwhile, the FBPR announced that the defending champions, the Florida Titanes, will host the Barceloneta Industriales for the 2025 Double-A League Opening Day on March 2 at the Rafael Fello Marrero Stadium. The other participants in the 2025 Double-A League will take the field on March 7.

The Juan José Tití Beníquez Stadium in San Sebastián will host the 2025 All-Star Game. The event will include the Juego de las Leyendas (Game of the Legends), including former Double-A League stars.

Bayamon Vaqueros lead 2-0 in the best-of-five Youth Double-A League final series against the Coamo Maratonistas. Game three is scheduled for Saturday, January 25.
