UCLA cornerbacks coach Kodi Whitfield ’16 to join defensive staff

0

Former Stanford safety and current UCLA cornerbacks coach Kodi Whitfield ‘16 will return to the Farm to join the defensive staff, ESPN reporter Pete Thamel announced on X Friday.

Whitfield came to Stanford as a wide receiver in 2012 before becoming the starting free safety for the Cardinal before the 2014 season. During his time on the Farm, Whitfield won three Pac-12 titles and played in two Rose Bowls. He recorded 55 tackles during the 2014 seasons and 50 tackles after the 2015 season. After graduating from Stanford in 2016, he pursued his masters in sports product design from Oregon and began working for Adidas.

Whitfield began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at UCLA in 2020 before becoming the defensive backs coach at Sacramento State with Troy Taylor in 2022.

The former Stanford safety is the second addition to the defensive staff since the offseason started, as former Sacramento state head coach and defensive coordinator Andy Thompson was brought on in December to be the co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.
