'Thanks for reading': CNN's Kaitlan Collins delivers epic putdown to MAGA troll

A Trump supporter tried to fact-check CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins on the Trump administration's revocation of the security detail for former National Institutes of Health director Dr. Anthony Fauci — and was promptly set straight.

The decision to terminate protection for Fauci, who has become a popular target of hate from the right over various conspiracy theories about how he handled public policy advice around the COVID-19 pandemic, came after Trump also revoked details for his former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his former National Security Adviser John Bolton, both of whom have been critical of his fitness to serve since leaving his employ.

Bolton has sounded the alarm that Trump likely wants them all to be targeted for violence.

But after Collins reported about Fauci losing his detail, pro-Trump author and financial adviser Jeff Carlson posted to X that she was making it all up.

"Fauci’s security detail was a two-year deal. It expired in December 2024 - while Biden was still president," wrote Carlson, linking to a Daily Mail article on the security detail. "CNN can’t even do the most basic reporting in their quest to 'get' Trump."

Collins, however, politely informed Carlson he had missed an important detail.

"Hi, Jeff," she wrote. "Fauci had security the last several months after his previous protection ended that was being paid for the NIH. That was canceled last night. But thanks for reading."

According to Collins, Fauci is now moving to pay for a private security detail in place of the canceled NIH protection.
