ACL launches lineup census for 2025 music festival
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- New year, new Austin City Limits Music Festival lineup.
The annual October music fest may not be on your mind in January, but organizers work throughout the year to plan one of Austin's largest annual events.
The ACL Festival Instagram account posted on Friday that a survey has been launched asking attendees what artists they want to see play in Zilker this fall.
Thousands of people have taken to the comment section of the post to make a case for their favorite artists, but the survey exists as a Google Form that can be found by clicking here or going to the ACL Festival website.
It's called "ACL Fest 2025 Lineup Census," and it has 13 questions, like; "Have you attended ACL Fest before?" "What would persuade you to attend ACL Fest?" "What genre of music do you wish had more of a presence at ACL Fest?"
All but one question are in a multiple-choice format. The question, "Who do you want to see at ACL Fest 2025?" has a fill-in-the-blank where respondents can list multiple artists.
ACL did not say why the survey was launched, though it never fails that the festival is on the receiving end of complaints surrounding the lineup each year. The lineup census isn't customary for ACL, and it's the first time (at least in recent years) that the fest has asked festival-goers for their input ahead of announcing the lineup.
All Things Go, a much smaller, two-day music festival based in the Washington D.C. area, posted on X earlier this week saying its fans "literally book" the fest. ATG sent a survey to ticketholders following the 2024 festival, in part asking what artists should play next year, and it has posted that sentiment on various social media platforms.
"Just know everyone at ATG is always listening. Find me another festival that the fans LITERALLY BOOK?! We do this for you," the post said.
Perhaps ACL is following suit.
