Wedgewood Erratic

0

Photographer: Rebecca RoushSummary Author: Rebecca RoushWhen the Vashon Glaciation began to retreat and melt around 17,000 years ago in what is now northwestern Washington State, the retreating ice flows left behind ridges, lakes, valleys, gravel, islands and also very large boulders. An example of such a boulder is the Wedgewood Erratic, shown above in a residential neighborhood of Seattle.

This Pacific Northwest erratic, like many others, was deposited during the retreat of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet, and specifically by its Puget Lobe, which reached past present-day Olympia, Washington. Photo taken on November 14, 2024.
