Franklin under boil notice after water line burst leading to low pressure.
ST. MARY PARISH, LA (KLFY) --- The Franklin Water System issued a boil notice effective immediately after shutting off the supply when a main water line ruptured right on weber street Wednesday afternoon.
“Ice was spitting out of the lines, and it was just very, very cold, which exacerbated the overall project and the ability to get this done," said Franklin Mayor Eugene Foulcard.
Crews worked all night to fix the 10-inch main water burst. Mayor Eugene Foulcard says other pipes ruptured causing issues, but another factor that led to the boil notice was citizens dripping their water pipes at home.
"With everyone dripping and running their pipes during this bitterly cold weather, it has caused our water supply at the water plant to drop the pressure to drop in this city wide."
Mayor Foulcard asks the community to be patient as they work to get the water pressure back up and lift the boil advisory once it is safe.
The city personnel that worked in subfreezing temperatures to repair this line that they're out right now, you know, working on to all the lines around franklin. Only heaven knows, we may have some other lines that may rupture between now and next couple of days as everything continues to thaw out."
A limited water distribution location began at 1:30 pm for residents to use for cooking and drinking. It is located at the Armry Building down Cynthia St.
