PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Law enforcement has arrested two minors in connection with the robbery that led to a fatal shooting at Fred Meyer.

The Portland Police Bureau revealed that a 16-year-old male was arrested in connection with the shooting of 47-year-old Jonathan Trent on Jan. 15. A 15-year-old male suspect was arrested more than a week later on Thursday.

According to PPB, both suspects are being held in the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center. They have been accused of robbery, along with Trent’s murder. Police suspect the older male was involved in four additional robberies that happened earlier this month.

Officials also reported the Jan. 1 arrest of another 15-year-old male who knows the two suspects, although he has solely been accused of robbery.

The deadly Fred Meyer shooting occurred near Northeast 102nd Avenue around 4 p.m. on Jan. 13. Trent, who was identified as the victim three days later, was found dead when officers arrived on the scene.

Investigators soon determined the circumstances surrounding his death were “suspicious.” PPB later revealed that Trent was shot after attempting to stop a robbery.
