Lauren Boebert raises false alarm over 'a guy' in Capitol Hill women's room: report

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) reportedly summoned law enforcement on Thursday over "a guy" who entered a women's restroom in the Capitol — that turned out to be a false alarm.

According to Bloomberg News congressional reporter Billy House, "Rep. Lauren Boebert bursting out of the House Women's restroom during this afternoon's vote series, complaining to security personnel stationed in the nearby Speakers Lobby of 'a guy' inside the bathroom."

House monitored who exited the bathroom after the spectacle, but all appeared to be women.

"Within minutes, however, Boebert was storming back from the House floor into the restroom, — reinforced by Rep. Nancy Mace in tow," House noted.

Mace (R-SC), who has been described by former staffers as a pathological attention-seeker, has in recent months positioned herself as the foremost member of Congress standing opposed to any accommodation or recognition for transgender people on Capitol Hill — despite just a year prior describing herself as "pro-transgender rights."

"I later asked Boebert what this was all about, noting I had heard her complain there was 'a guy' in there," House reported. "To her credit, she acknowledged it was a mistake. 'There was a rumor there was, but it wasn't true,' she told me."

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) recently renewed a policy barring transgender people from the restrooms of their identified gender — a move that appeared to be a public response to the election of Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), the first openly transgender member of Congress.

Opponents of transgender rights frequently target bathroom access, based on fearmongering about male predators dressing as women to ambush people in public bathrooms — even though transgender people are consistently themselves at elevated risk for physical and sexual violence.

Boebert, a far-right lawmaker who recently jumped ship from her previous district to a more conservative one on the other side of Colorado, has faced accusations of public lewdness, due to an incident in which she and a male companion were captured on camera groping each other during a production of "Beetlejuice," and subsequently ejected from the premises.
