Scary Video Shows Amtrak Hitting Stalled Semi-Truck

0

Terrifying video shows the horrific crash that took place in Auburn, WA, over the weekend when a speeding Amtrak train collided with a semi-truck.

The incident occurred Saturday at roughly 10:18 a.m. local time, police told KIRO 7. The two truck drivers, identified by the outlet as Chris B. and Arkeen Young, became stalled on the tracks after making a wrong turn due to faulty GPS directions. When they turned, they found themselves stuck behind another semi-truck, their cabin sitting in the middle of the tracks. They tried to back up, but realized that a train was bearing down on them and there was no time.

“It was real foggy. Like the only thing we could see from the train was just the lights, that’s it,” Chris B. recalled. “We couldn’t really tell how fast it was coming…I don’t know how fast, I just know trains be moving,” he added.

“By the time I looked over, the train was right there. [We] just jumped out. It was real close. I had like a good three seconds to get out,” Young said.

The two men quickly realized they had to abandon their cargo if they hoped to survive. “I’m like, yo, forget the truck, man,” Chris B. told Young. “We got to get out of here, man. If he would have stayed on the truck for more than five seconds, it would have been over with.”

One man, presumably Young, jumped from the cab just moments before the Amtrak train collided with the truck. As they fled, the vehicle’s cabin exploded and the train continued on unhindered. According to Chris B., “the engine literally flew out [of] the truck like 30 feet ahead” of them as they made their escape.

The train was carrying more than 150 passengers, but no injuries were reported. “It felt like the chair jumped forward. We stopped and then it jolted again,” passenger Sam Koek told the outlet. “The entire driver’s side of the truck was just ripped out of it,” he said of the damage. “It was completely on its side, shattered, there were wires sticking out of, like, the glove compartment.”

The train was delayed for over two hours as authorities cleared the scene, arriving at its destination in Tacoma about three hours later than expected. The crash caused delays on other local Amtrak routes throughout Saturday, but service back was to normal on Sunday.
