IT’S been nearly three months since Kamala Harris suffered a pummeling defeat to Donald Trump as the two bitterly locked horns for the presidency.
President Joe Biden endorsed Vice President Harris as the Democratic nominee in July 2024 but were trounced in November’s election.
What is Kamala Harris doing next?
Amid speculation of another shot at The White House in 2028, Ms Harris’ first step could be publishing a book.
Two people close to the former Attorney General of California say she has already made the decision to put pen to paper, NBC News reported.
It is unknown what the topic of the book will be.
“Kamala Harris is poised to land the biggest book deal of any vice president in history,” said Keith Urbahn, the president and a co-founder of the literary agency Javelin.
“But the real question isn’t the advance — it’s whether the book can redefine her for 2028.”
“There’s a version of this book that is full of platitudes but safe, and then there’s a version that reinvents her to lead a Democratic Party in need of rebuilding.
“She gets a payday either way, but only the latter gets her a second shot at the presidency.”
Ms Harris’ former communications director, Ashley Etienne, said she would scoop up numerous copies of the book for “all the women” in her life to read.
“The vice president is a historic figure with an incredible story to tell, from her leadership to tackle Covid, rebuild the economy and to protect the rights of women in this nation,” she said.
“People love her — 70-plus million, in fact. And I can imagine they’re desperate for her to pull back the curtain on her groundbreaking journey from a child of immigrants to commanding the mantle of the most powerful country in the world.”
The Vice President is already a published author.
“The Truths We Hold,” was released during the same time as her first presidential campaign launch.
It came out top on the New York Times bestseller list in 2019.
Where will Kamala Harris live now?
After an unsuccessful rerun in Washington DC, Ms Harris now looks set to jet back to her home state of California alongside second gentleman Doug Emhoff.
According to CBS News, a source who has information on Harris and Emhoff’s plans said they have been apartment hunting in Manhattan.
However, the couple own a home in Brentwood, Los Angeles which they will spend most of their time.
The neighborhood is close to the Pacific Palisades which have been tragically ravaged by wildfires.
On January 17, Mr Emhoff posted a moving tribute to Ms Harris on X.
“Never did I imagine that this kid who grew up in New Jersey would one day be at the White House,” he wrote.
“It has been an incredible honor to serve as our nation’s first Second Gentleman.”
