Ivanka Trump Admitted That Donald Trump's 2016 Presidential Win Impacted Her Social Life

Ivanka Trump isn’t jumping back into politics with Donald Trump’s second term in the White House, she’s going to remain a private citizen this time around. In her father’s first administration, she served as a senior adviser, but it came at a cost to her personal life.

In a Jan. 13 interview on Dear Media’s The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast, the 43-year-old Miami socialite admitted that she and her husband, Jared Kushner, lost a few friends after Donald Trump won in 2016. “I definitely had some acquaintances who, you know, their politics diverged wildly from [those] of my [father], or they took things personally or got overly emotional,” she explained. That statement aligns with what a source shared with CNN in 2020 of how Ivanka and her husband were shunned. “The fashion industry is a very liberal, Democratic-leaning group and I just don’t see them welcoming them back — professionally or socially — with open arms.”

The negativity from their Manhattan social circle was a big reason the couple decided to opt out of Donald Trump’s third run for president. “Ivanka hated all the criticism and the threats, and was unhappy about how a lot of their friends turned their back on them,” a New York Post insider said in November 2022. Ivanka sounded rather disappointed by how some people treated her in the aftermath of the 2016 election.

“I never judge someone by their politics. So, for me, it’s not a litmus test. So, I would expect that back from you,” she said on the podcast while claiming she had “friends across the ideological spectrum” in her life. “I view conversations with those who disagree with me as an opportunity to learn… I may not agree with them, I may partially agree with them… I feel like that makes you a full human being when you have people in your life who disagree.”

Ivanka still has bold-faced names who stuck by her side, including Kim Kardashian and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez. So, while the New York social scene turned its back on her, the Hollywood adjacent crowd seemed to welcome her in — it’s a set of friends who don’t seem to mind Donald Trump’s controversial politics.
