Beloved Bollywood Actor Stabbed by Intruder in Mumbai Home

Popular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan suffered serious injuries after being stabbed numerous times by an intruder at his home in Mumbai.

According to the New York Times, Indian police officials said the actor was attacked early morning Thursday, Jan. 16 by an intruder who was able to flee the scene. Khan was taken to a hospital where he was recovering and in stable condition.

The police looking into the stabbing believe it was part of an attempted burglary. They are still searching for the attacker but said a suspect had been identified.

Khan endured a major injury to his spinal cord, along with injuries to his arm and neck, the publication reported. He underwent an operation to remove the knife used in the attack and to repair his leaking spinal fluid.

The actor's representation requested fans and media remain calm while police conduct their investigation.

Khan's career has spanned over three decades, appearing in more than 70 movies. The actor has touched a broad range of genres from romance to comedy to action.

Khan is a descendent of the royal family of Nawabs, according to CBS News. The family once ruled a small state outside of New Delhi called Pataudi. His father, Mansoor Ali Khan, was the captain of India's cricket team and his mother was popular actress Karen Kapoor Khan.

He is married to actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and is father to popular actress Sara Ali Khan.
