Bob Uecker is mourned as MLB fans pay tribute to the legendary Mr. Baseball
Major League Baseball is in mourning on Thursday following the death of Bob Uecker, the Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster, former catcher and beacon of comedy known as Mr. Baseball. He was 90 years old.
A native of Wisconsin, born and raised in Milwaukee, Uecker turned a middling, five-year stint as an MLB catcher during the 1960s into a broadcasting career that spanned six decades, made him a mainstay in Hollywood and saw his everyman persona become as synonymous with the Brewers as the Miller Lite beer he served as spokesman for.
In a statement on Thursday, the Brewers called Uecker “the heart and soul of Wisconsin”. As baseball fans learned of his passing, it remains evident his legacy reached far beyond the the Badger state — and beyond baseball itself.
