From LA wildfires to hurricanes, immigrants help rebuild after disasters. Many may be deported

After disasters like the wildfires in Los Angeles happen, much of the rebuilding work is done by Latino immigrant workers, many in the country illegally. They clean up, repair and rebuild entire communities after storms, floods and wildfires that are intensifying with soaring global temperatures due to climate change. When President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House, he promises mass deportations of millions of immigrants without legal status. Labor advocates and organizations say that would create a shortage of roofers, construction laborers and other trade workers, dramatically slowing recovery efforts after climate-driven disasters.
