President Biden gives farewell address

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - Negotiators are on their way to Egypt to put the finishing touches on a ceasefire deal in the Middle East.

President Joe Biden addressed the deal in his final speech from the Oval Office last night.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says negotiators still have some details to work out but the deal between Hamas and Israel pauses the 15-month war in Gaza and return some hostages back to Israel.

Fighting began with Hamas' October 7th attack on Israel.

Militants killed about 1200 and abducted around 250.

Health authorities in Gaza say Israel’s response killed more than 46,000.

President-elect Donald Trump pushed for the return of hostages before he takes office.

Before President Biden leaves office he warned of national security threats spawned by AI and of the influence of the wealthy, as tech billionaires align themselves with President-elect Trump.

“An oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that literally threatens our entire democracy,” said Biden.

After 50 years in public life, the youngest U.S. senator and the oldest U.S. president passed the torch.

“Now it's your turn to stand guard. May you all be the keeper of the flame. May you keep the faith,” said Biden.

Biden also touted his accomplishments around the world and for the country.
