Red Sox’s Alex Cora Gives Hilarious Comp To Top Prospect
BOSTON — The Red Sox are excited about what they have in top prospect Roman Anthony.
Anthony, 20, moved to the No. 1 overall spot on Baseball America’s prospect rankings, and is expected to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025. Red Sox manager Alex Cora spoke about his limited experience with the youngster, while simultaneously hitting a former teammate with some playful banter.
“He’s a good player,” Cora said Saturday, speaking with media at Fenway Fest. “I don’t know, you guys have seen him more than me, but the way I see it, he’s like J.D. Drew but athletic.”
J.D. Drew ricochet shots? Fenway Fest has it all, folks!
Cora made sure to clarify his comments, saying Anthony was more energetic than Drew, while also touting his excitement to work with young players in the system.
“We have a lot of good players in the minor leagues,” “I like that they’re all good citizens, they put in the work, they ask the right questions, they take care of themselves, you know? They love baseball, they want to win, and that’s why I’m excited about it.”
The Red Sox should be excited, especially if they have a juiced-up J.D. Drew on their hands…
