Tottenham receive huge injury boost as vice-captain returns to training

Tottenham have just received a big boost as one of their key players revealed on social media that he is now back in training after overcoming his injury woes.

Tottenham regular has been a major miss

While Fraser Forster has done reasonably well to fill in for Guglielmo Vicario, the Italian’s absence has undoubtedly been felt by Ange Postecoglou‘s men.

The Tottenham number one’s ability to sweep in front of the defence and his decision-making in possession are skills that the ageing Forster lacks. This is perhaps why the Lilywhites have decided to sign another goalkeeper in the form of Antonin Kinsky.

The Czech youngster had a debut of dreams against Liverpool on Wednesday, but he might not continue in goal for too long as Vicario is seemingly edging closer to a return.

Guglielmo Vicario provides an update on his fitness

The 28-year-old has been out with a fractured ankle for almost two months and it was previously reported that Vicario was not expected to be back in action until February.

However, it appears the Italian is ahead of the expected timeline, with the goalkeeper taking to social media to confirm that he is back training with the team.

The former Empoli man confessed that it has not been easy watching on from the sidelines and admitted that he is keen to get out onto the pitch and help the team.

What kind of work Vicario is doing on the training pitch, we are not sure of yet. It is likely that he is training alone to build up strength and fitness rather than joining in with team sessions.

Guglielmo Vicario confirmed in 2024 that he has been added to Ange Postecoglou’s vice-captain leadership group, alongside Cristian Romero, James Maddison, and captain Heung-min Son.

Vicario will be looking over his shoulder

There is no doubt that Vicario will go straight into the starting eleven when he is fit. Not only is he a world-class shot-stopper but he is also one of the leaders in this young Spurs side.

However, the Italy international will now know that he cannot rest easy as Antonin Kinsky is breathing down his neck.

The Czech youngster will be ready to pounce if the Spurs number one makes a mistake, which is why the experienced goalkeeper will have to work hard to address his weaknesses, namely his ability to claim corner-kicks.
