22-year-old set to replace Shubman Gill as Rohit Sharma’s permanent ODI opening partner for 2025 Champions Trophy?

0

New Delhi: After a disappointing defeat in the Test arena and failing to qualify for the WTC 2025 final, Team India is gearing up to return to white-ball action with a T20I and ODI series against England, followed by the Champions Trophy 2025. A major point of discussion among Indian fans is whether Shubman Gill is the right opening partner for Rohit Sharma in limited-overs cricket. Gill has struggled for form recently, underperforming in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the latest ODI series against Sri Lanka. Now, it appears India may be considering another option to partner Rohit at the top of the order.

As per a report from Bengali newspaper Aajkal, the Indian team management is considering Yashasvi Jaiswal as the potential permanent opening partner for Rohit Sharma in ODIs, starting with the upcoming series against England. The report highlights that while the selectors initially had doubts about Jaiswal’s suitability for ODIs, his recent performances in Test cricket have forced them to reconsider their stance.

Jasprit Bumrah likely to miss ODI series:
As per a report from RevSportz, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the ODI series against England starting February 9. There are also concerns about his availability for the Champions Trophy 2025. The report suggests that while Bumrah could be included in the squad for the prestigious tournament, he may miss the initial matches if his injury is significant. However, he is expected to be fit for the knockout stages.

Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be included in the Champions Trophy squad with a conditional asterisk, pending clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) medical team once he regains full fitness.

As reported by SportsTak, the ace fast bowler will consult with the BCCI’s medical staff along with his personal doctor, who had previously operated on him during his injury in New Zealand in 2022.
