Sam Altman’s Sister Accuses Him of Sexual Abuse in New Lawsuit
On Monday, Annie Altman, the 30-year-old younger sister of OpenAI founder Sam Altman, filed a lawsuit against her brother, accusing him of sexually abusing her when she was a minor. In the suit, which was filed in Missouri federal court and obtained by the Cut, Annie claims Sam abused her for nine years in their family home outside St. Louis, starting in 1997, when she was 3 and he was 12. Between then and 2006, she alleges that Sam committed “numerous acts of rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse, molestation, sodomy and battery,” including when he was over 18 and no longer a minor. Annie also claims her brother “groomed and manipulated” her into believing the acts were “her idea.”
Annie, who’s requesting $75,000 in damages, has been making similar allegations online for several years. Her brother addressed them for the first time on Tuesday, after she filed her lawsuit, denying her claims in a shared X post from himself, his mother, and his two brothers. “Caring for a family member who faces mental health challenges is incredibly difficult,” they wrote, adding that Annie “has made deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims about our family” over the years. The Altmans wrote that “her claims have evolved drastically over time,” but this lawsuit is the first time they’ve included “incidents where Sam was over 18.”
“We ask for understanding and compassion from everyone as we continue to support Annie in the best way we can,” the Altmans added. “We sincerely hope she finds the stability and peace she’s been searching for.”
