New comptroller appointed in Troy
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The city of Troy has a new comptroller, Mayor Carmella Mantello announced on Thursday. Jack Krokos will officially take on his new role and join the city's administration on January 13.
Krokos comes to the city with experience in the banking industry, having previously worked as a financial analyst, mortgage loan officer, and investment manager. A Rensselaer County native and current resident of Sand Lake, he'll now be responsible for managing Troy's budget, financial operations, and spending, while maintaining transparency and adhering to local, state, and federal regulations.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jack as our new Comptroller for the City of Troy," said Mayor Carmella Mantello. "Jack’s knowledge, experience and deep commitment to public service will be invaluable as we work to strengthen our city’s financial foundation and continue building a prosperous future for all residents. The City Comptroller’s office is integral to maintaining the fiscal health and integrity of Troy."
City Council President Sue Steele and fellow Democrat Councilmembers Katie Spain-McLaren and Aaron Vera issued a joint statement on Krokos' appointment, which indicated optimism in the role being filled, while voicing frustration with the amount of time the job was left vacant.
"This is welcome news, but long overdue for the administration, which has been without a comptroller since last July. We look forward to reviewing Mr. Krokos' credentials before his confirmation hearing and hope he will work collaboratively with the entire council to restore public confidence in the administration’s ability to manage taxpayer dollars. In the short-term, we urge the mayor to immediately provide overdue quarterly financial reports to the city council."
"I am honored and grateful to begin my service as Comptroller for the City of Troy in Mayor Mantello’s administration," Krokos said in response to his appointment. "I look forward to working with the heads of all departments to ensure sound financial practices, and promote accountability and transparency in all fiscal matters."
