Welcome Mariner prospect enthusiasts! After a long, cold winter of longing for a mere crumb of action at the big league level, it’s time to take our minds off things and officially pivot into all the great happenings down on the farm. I know it can be hard to be happy as a Mariner fan, but I promise it’s more fun this way.

This year, the first round of analysis will feature the “honorable mention” groups that highlight the bulk of the minor leaguers we may or may not have mentioned throughout our weekly recaps over the course of last season. We’ll split this mass of players into digestible clusters that have generally similar profiles. Once we’re done with the initial previews, we’ll move on to individual breakdowns of our top twenty players in the system. These rankings were made by averaging the lists of our prospect team’s personal rankings, then voting to break any ties that may have arisen. This year’s ranking didn’t feature quite as much variance in player rank as we’ve had in prior years, so it made for a fairly straightforward process (and perhaps affirmed the notion the Seattle system is a bit top heavy).

We plan to release these every Tuesday and Thursday moving forward and hope to provide analysis that is thorough, fair, and easy to follow. Regardless of your prior prospect knowledge, this is a great place to familiarize yourself with the Mariner farm system and gain a better understanding of what’s to come. Enjoy!
