In 2017, Kristine Larson, a collegiate athlete and outspoken lesbian, became the first African American woman to be promoted to battalion chief within the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Kristine graduated summa cum laude from Capella University with a master’s degree in public service leadership with an emphasis in Emergency Management.
Larson has completed a DEI certification program through Cornell University and is participating in the International Association of Fire Chief’s Diversity Executive Leadership Program which aims to advance DEI within the fire service, with a cohort of members from around the Country.
Today, Kristine Larson runs the Equity and Human Resources Bureau of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
She was promoted to Deputy Chief to help lead the newly formed division in February 2023.
This is what Los Angeles city is putting money into when their not filling the fire hydrants with water.
Larson brags about how she has a history of speaking out about the issues of “sexism and racism” in the fire department “pretty much by myself.”
