'Getting calls from everybody': 'Luigi Mangione Effect' said to be impacting security jobs
Security guards have made the list of fastest-growing jobs for the first time in the wake of the assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The social media platform LinkedIn released its 2025 report on "Jobs on the Rise," which shows security guards climbing to the top 10, and experts say demand for private security may climb even higher as business leaders fear for their own safety following the CEO's killing in broad daylight, reported Fortune.
“We’re getting calls from everybody,” said Glen Kucera, president of enhanced protection services at Allied Universal. “Demand for the security business follows events. If there’s a specific incident, then companies say, ‘I need to protect my executives. I need to protect my employees from this happening again.’”

Police have arrested and charged a suspect, Luigi Mangione, who has become a "Robin Hood"-style folk hero to many for allegedly killing the figurehead of an insurance company known for rejecting claims for health care services, and the public reaction has put many business leaders on edge.
“Boards [and] CEOs are already going to their chief security officer asking, ‘What do we have in place? What systems, what tools, what bosses do we have to identify threats?’” said Dave Komendat, former chief security officer for Boeing and founder of a risk services company. “This is one of those incidents that causes people to stop and look at their current program they have in place.”
Security guards ranked 10th on the LinkedIn list, while artificial intelligence engineers and consultants ranked at the top.
Physical therapists rated as the third-fastest growing job, and workforce development managers placed fourth and travel advisers rounded out the top five.
