Adam Gilchrist shockingly picks Virat Kohli over Jasprit Bumrah to lead India in Test cricket, says ‘I wouldn’t be surprised…’
New Delhi: After facing a shameful 3-1 defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Rohit Sharma faced heavy criticized for his poor form with the bat, on the top that he dropped himself for the fifth Test in Sydney. Jasprit Bumrah led the side in the first and the fifth Test matches of the series, with chance of him to replace Rohit Sharma amid Indian skipper’s uncertain future. But, Australia’s legendary wicketkeeper batter Adam Gilchrist believes that Virat Kohli might get a chance to lead India again in Test cricket.
In the latest episode of the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, Adam Gilchrist said he believes that it could be tough job for Bumrah to lead India as the full-time skipper. He also said that he would not get a surprise if Virat Kohli gets the leadership again.
“Change of leadership? I don’t know whether Bumrah should be a full-time captain. I reckon that might get a little bit challenging for him. So, who the next captain maybe is anyone’s guess, really. Whether they go back to Virat, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wouldn’t mind doing it,” Gilchrist said.
After Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will face England in a five-match Test series which will be a away tour in June 2025. Adam Gilchrist believes that Rohit Sharma might not travel to England.
“I don’t see Rohit going to England. He is going to assess when he gets home.’ I mean, the first thing he is going to be met with when he does get home is a two-month-old baby that he has to change nappies on. I don’t see him pressing on. I think he will probably have a crack at the Champions Trophy. They have got some white-ball cricket coming up against England. Then they go to the Champions Trophy. I reckon he might have a crack at that, and then that might see him out,” Gilchrist added.
